Apart from both being excellent photographers and represented by the agence VU, Claudine Doury and Jeffrey Silverthorne don’t have much in common. Claudine Doury, who I admire a lot because of her ability to go between reportage and staging, investigates the sensibility of children and teenagers. while as Jeffrey Silverthorne violently explores the questions of sex and death, taking us to the darker corners of society, such as morgues and brothels. (And yes, sometimes it reminds me of Antoine Agata’s work).
Right now, the two of them are being exposed in Paris, and I highly recommend their shows. Doury’s at the Carré de Baudoin and Silverthorne’s at the galerie VU.
