Here is the building façade and, below, the square that the apartment looks out upon. No cars—it’s a pedestrian square. One of the famous staircases of Montmartre comes off the square.

The bathroom has a big tub (with shower head). Hot water is plentiful.

The Lamarck neighborhood is the sweet spot of Montmartre, a lively, untouristy area directly behind Sacre Coeur. You can walk to the basilica in about 5 minutes. This metro stop, Lamarck Caulaincourt, is also a five-minute walk from the apartment.

Just steps from the apartment are three fabulous cafe, all open from early morning til late at night:

arrose labutteLe Café Arrosé, Francis Labutte (whose stairs lead to Sacre Coeur), and Café Francoeur, which is the newest but looks the oldest due to its antique fixtures.

No self-respecting Parisian neighborhood would be without its local butcher (who sells deliriously delicious roast chickens) and cheese specialist. Of course, this is just one of the many cheese shops in the area. Wine specialists, florists, dry cleaners and fruit stands abound.
