Last week I posted a page about trying to help my 7-year-old Francophile niece, who lives in Kentucky, to come visit me in Paris.         

In a word: Wow. Lucy’s mother and I conspired to start the “Send Lucy to Paris” fund just to facilitate small donations from our extended clan. To our surprise and delight, friends gave, too, even some who have never met the diminutive beneficiary. We haven’t set a date for Lucy’s trip, and we’re hoping airline prices will fall now that oil is cheaper.

If you read Lucy’s letter to me, which inspired the fund, you will get a kick out of an email that I received, below.

 

Dear Laurie -

Thanks for nothing but Mandy [Lucy's mother] and I really want to come to Paris to see you.  It’s 10:50 and we’re thinking about drinking wine.  Again. It doesn’t have to be this weekend, or even next, but we really, really want to come.
