Trekking to the 15th for Afaria

afariaAfaria, a Basque restaurant, draws a smart crowd who find it well worth a metro ride and a long walk right down to the edge of the residential 15e arrondissement. Booking is essential, especially if you want to eat at the communal Tapas table to share a bite-sized menu over a glass of sherry or red wine from the Languedoc.

230040372At the individual tables in the main room of the restaurant, the young chef, Julien Duboué who previously worked under chef Alain Dutournier at the Michelin 2 star restaurant Carré des Feuillants, has created a carte of set menus – though you can also mix and match between them. The flavours are Basque – pimento, jambon, tomato, sardines but each menu takes a different theme, catering for ‘Sudistes’ (fans of Southern French cooking); ‘Petites appetites’ (anyone on a diet) and or ‘Voyageurs’ (featuring exotic additions to the Basque remit including Aloe Vera).
