I really want to know what this is.

I love faux-american stuff. As for the taste, It’s sort of like thousand Island. I did some googling and the sauce does in fact have American origins. They have a similar sauce in Utah for fries generally made with part mayo and part ketchup. The Heinz “American sauce” isnt’ exactly the same, but it’s actually not bad.

Many different companies make American Sauce, and they all taste fairly similar, but the ingredients seem to vary pretty widely (some involving shellfish, some being much simpler and vegetarian, if not vegan). I mostly had the Manna American Sauce Either way, it’s absolutely delicious on shwarma, especially when combined with garlic sauce. I still miss my regular late night runs for shwarma met americaine saus.

Also, as you can imagine, all of my European friends were quite surprised to learn that we don’t have “American Sauce” in America.

It’s a slightly spicy, vinegar-based sauce, a bit like traditional cocktail sauce with Thousand Island dressing, but we couldn’t say it was exactly like something else in the US. Kind of suspicious that it isn’t on their website. . .
